Twitch has all but confirmed a price increase to Tier 1 subscriptions in the US following adjustments to their cost in Canada, Australia and the UK.

On February 20, Twitch announced that the cost of subs would be going up in multiple key markets with the price of a Tier 1 sub increasing by $1 in Canada and Australia and £1 in the UK.

According to the streaming platform, this decision was made to “help streamer revenue keep pace with rising costs and reflect local currency fluctuations,” but that doesn’t mean that other countries are off the hook.

During a Twitch stream with Chief Monetization Officer Mike Minton and Director of Community Marketing Mary Kish, it was revealed that users should expect an additional price increase in the United States later this year.

Twitch says cost of US subs could be going up

At the end of the presentation, Kish read questions from the chat with one user inquiring about a possible increase to US pricing later this year.

“Let me say it this way: probably yes,” Minton replied. “Exactly what it will be is maybe still an open question.”

Minton went on to reference the Canadian cost increase, which saw T1 subs go up from $6.99 to $7.99, and noted how the Canadian and US currencies track closely together.

“Stating what may be obvious to some people, these things are pretty well connected. It is extremely likely we will see a US price increase. We’re working on the details as to what the increase will be and when,” he explained.

He further said that in order to get the price right, they’ll be looking at this recent wave of increases and will roll it out when they’re confident they know what the price should be.

We’ll have to wait and see what exactly Twitch decides to do and if the pricing ends up following the recent increases when they come into effect on March 28, 2024.
