Naturally, fans have been looking out for clues surrounding Season 2 and its arrival, and that includes stalking the latest filming locations.
The latest location shared among fans serves as a hint that the biggest and most emotional plot point in the game will most certainly be recreated on screen. And already, fans are preparing for the worst.
The Last of Us Season 2 filming location hints towards Joel’s death scene
Over on X, @TheLastofUsNews shared images of a new filming location for The Last of Us Season 2, which reveals a large golf course and cabin. Fans of the game immediately clocked on to what this could mean, and more importantly, who it affects.
For those who need reminding, the golf course is the setting for Joel‘s death scene in The Last of Us 2. It all takes place during the part in the game where the player can operate as Abby, a new character in the sequel. It turns out, Joel killed Abby’s father, Dr. Jerry Anderson, during his rampage on the Firefly hospital in the original game (and in Season 1 of the show).
After running from a horde of the infected, Abby unexpectedly encounters Joel and Ellie. Seizing the opportunity, she brutally murders Joel by smashing his head in with a golf club. It was one of the most shocking twists of the game by far, with players suddenly having to part ways with their protagonist.
It’s the moment that everyone’s been expecting when it comes to The Last of Us Season 2, but it still doesn’t make the idea of it any easier. In fact, the new location snaps have some fans completely traumatized before they’ve even had to watch it.
“STOP PRODUCTION,” one X user demanded. Another added: “‘Near a golf course’ WRAP IT UP I’M SERIOUS I’M DONE.”
“No not this. I’m coming for you Joel,” another said.
“JOEL, JOEL DON’T GO IN THERE, JOEL,” one user pleaded.
Another wrote: “Next to… next to a… Shut it down I don’t want S2 anymore, I take it all back please…”
