The post-series blues is real as Hazbin Hotel fans are eager to watch a new series similar to the animated one as they have some time to kill before Season 2.

Creator Vivienne Medrano developed a devoted fanbase years ago with her pilot episode which was turned into a praised and successful animated show by Amazon Prime Video. It was based on her original characters of Charlie Morningstar trying to protect the demons in Hell from the Extermination.

The first season was well-loved among die-hard and new fans. It combined the politics of Heaven and Hell, raunchiness, comedy, and musical elements. Fans are waiting for more as the finale left the door open for continuing storylines.

But with Hazbin Hotel Season 2 not coming to the small screen for some time, here are a few shows to watch in the meantime. Some are even recommended by Medrano.

The Owl House

The animated fantasy series focuses on a Dominican-American girl who finds a portal to the Demon Realm and pursues her journey to become a witch.

Disney’s The Owl House has many similar elements that Hazbin Hotel fans would love. It was praised for its inclusion of LGBTQ+ themes and a heartfelt story. Luz Noceda is a 14-year-old who stumbles upon the Demon Realm and befriends the rebellious witch Eda Clawthorne. She’s known as The Owl Lady.

Despite Luz not having any magical abilities she becomes Eda’s apprentice and begins to learn magic at The Owl House. The animated series was originally released in 2020 and has two full seasons with a third and final season.

Murder Drones

Set in Earth’s future in the year 3071, Murder Drones follows worker drones who are the only inhabitants of the planet. But are they?

Hazbin Hotel got its start as an independent pilot that was released on YouTube. For fans interested in more independent work that became something more, Murder Drones is a good fit. The show is a dystopian comedy-horror created by Liam Vickers. It was originally released in 2021 with a pilot on Youtube before being picked up for an eight-episode series.

Murder Drones take place in a world where worker drones were created to aid humans and mine their natural resources. But a catastrophic event wiped out all living things and made it a wasteland. Worker drones live in fear of Disassembly Drones who want to exterminate them.

The show’s main character is Uzi Doorman, a teenage drone who embarks on an adventure to uncover their origins and do something greater. Murder Drones also includes Hazbin Hotel stars, Michael Kovach and Elsie Lovelock.

Invader Zim

An extraterrestrial named Zim ventures to Earth to conquer the human race and the planet with the help of his robot servant.

According to Polygon, Invader Zim was a personal recommendation from the Hazbin Hotel creator for fans to watch. It’s easy to see why as Invader Zim is an oldie but a goodie.

Zim is from the planet Irk who are focused on conquest and have a hierarchy system based on height. Unlike others, Zim is an outcast and was banned for almost having destroyed the planet. Out of banishment, Irk announces the use of Invaders to prep planets for their takeover. Zim pleads to become one and is given the chance.

He’s sent to an unknown plant on the outskirts of the universe, known as a darker version of Earth. Given a robotic GIR, he infiltrates the planet as a green-skinned student.

The Good Place

A woman is sent to an idyllic version of Heaven after her death, but soon realizes she may not be in the right place due to her past indiscretions.

While The Good Place is not an animated series, it does have the right themes of Heaven, sins, the afterlife, and good comedy. Eleanor Shellstrop is a loner who dies and gets sent to heaven with a small-time criminal.

They arrive in the “good place” where everything is seemingly perfect and get what they want thanks to an AI named Janet. Eleanore is even given a soulmate who is morally righteous. Sooner rather than later, she realizes something is wrong and she doesn’t belong there. She tries to keep up the ruse as her mortal life’s indiscretions could get her kicked out.

Helluva Boss

The adult animated series focuses on the employees of I.M.P. in Hell, who offer hitman services in the land of the living.

Helluva Boss was a no-brainer among Reddit fans, as it was also created by Hazbin Hotel’s Medrano. The pilot episode was released in 2019 and takes place in the same Hellverse universe as the Amazon Prime Video series.

I.M.P (Immediate Murder Professionals) is a company in Hell run by imps (demon-like creatures). The series follows them on their many adventures as they provide assassination and hitman-for-hire services in the human world. The main characters include leader Blitzo,  weapons specialist Moxxie, powerhouse Millie, and receptionist hellhound Loona. They use an ancient book to travel to the human world.

Compared to Hazbin Hotel, the purpose of the series is to focus on already established people and societies in Hell. Heluva Boss also focuses on the characters’ stories instead of the road to redemption.
