The John Wick spin-off film Ballerina has just been hit with a year-long delay and will now release in 2025.

The John Wick franchise has become one of the most beloved action series of the generation. The main franchise stars Keanu Reeves, the actor portraying the rugged, brutal, and all-business John Wick.

Given the success of the first three movies, it was revealed that multiple spin-off films and TV shows were on the way. The most hotly anticipated of the bunch being Ana De Armas’ Ballerina flick.

The short and sweet synopsis for Ballerina is as follows: “A young female assassin seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.”

However, the film has just been hit with a major delay, Deadline reporting that the spin-off has been delayed a whole year as the project undergoes reshoots that will largely focus on action sequences for the film.

Therefore, rather than releasing on June 6, 2024, Ballerina is now slated for release on June 7, 2025.

So while fans will have to wait an extra year for Ballerina to come out, the hype surrounding the movie is still high. After all, confirmation that the likes of Reeves and other John Wick actors will appear in the film sparked major interest from the fanbase in the lead-up to its release.

However, there is no denying that the film has been through a tumultuous journey when it comes to its development process. Principal photography officially started for the movie in November 2022 in Prague, before going into post-production in February 2023.

The film will consequently have been in post-production for over two years before it does eventually hit big screens worldwide.

Ballerina is now set to open in theatres on June 7, 2025.
