Adrienne King – final girl in the original Friday the 13th movie – has posted an exciting update regarding new prequel series Crystal Lake. Including details of when the show might debut.

Friday the 13th has had a long and chequered history on the big-screen. The franchise debuted in 1980 as a hugely successful Halloween knock-off with a sick sting in its tail. That was followed by pretty much annual sequels, of varying quality, climaxing with the space-set Jason X in 2002.

Crossover hit Freddy vs Jason was released a year later to middling reviews. While in 2009 we got a Friday the 13th reboot; one that no one much remembers.

Since then a tangle of rights issues have prevented new Friday the 13th projects from getting off the ground. Until now…

According to Adrienne King, the new Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake will debut on Peacock this year. King – who starred in the very first Friday the 13th movie, and is also involved with the show – revealed the news by posting #Coming2024 on Instagram.

Hannibal mastermind Bryan Fuller – pictured here with King – is overseeing the forthcoming show, and previously told Fangoria that those rights issues have been sorted, meaning they can incorporate any story or character from the movies.

“We can use everything,” Fuller revealed. “We can go to hell, we can go to space. That’s not to say that we will do those things… although if we do go 10 seasons, I will be lobbying hard to go to space.”

As for how and where Jason Voorhees will feature – being that the show is set before the events of the first film – Fuller teased: “I wouldn’t count Jason out.” When pressed on the matter, he added: “I think over the course of the series you will see many familiar manifestations of Jason.”

As for a kill-count, Fuller said: “It will be pretty murderous – I think we’ll be dropping bodies every episode.”
