The original director of Another Round has jokingly threatened to slap Chris Rock again if his American remake of the 2020 film is “sh*t.”

Chris Rock is the director of the upcoming Another Round remake, according to Deadline. The actor and comedian has director features before, however this will be his most high-profile job behind the camera.

The Danish film came out in 2020 and was met with wide acclaim, being nominated for multiple awards and winning the 2021 Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

The announcement of Rock to direct the dark comedy thriller came as a shock to many fans. When asked about Rock’s version of his movie, the director of Another Round, Thomas Vinterberg, joked that he might slap the comedian.

In an interview with Danish magazine SoundVenue, Vinterberg alluded to Rock’s on-camera slap from Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars. The comedian famously joked about Smith’s wife before the actor struck him during the telecast.

Smith would later win the award for Best Actor, and Rock would implement the moment into his standup specials.

Vinterberg jokingly said that if Rock “does something shitty” with his movie, that will get “one more slap.”

The Danish director also said that he is not actively involved in the film’s American production.

So far, not much has been revealed about the remake. Some have speculated that Leonardo DiCaprio may play the lead role, which was helmed in the original Danish production by Mads Mikkelsen. DiCaprio is connected to the film because his production studio, Appianm Way, bought the rights to the movie back in 2021.

A release date for the movie has not been announced.
