Eli Roth switches gears from bloody horror to sci-fi action with Borderlands, with fans giving the first official movie trailer a thumbs up and even comparing it to Guardians of the Galaxy.

Based on the original video game, Borderlands is a movie that many have been waiting for. Not just because it’s an adaptation of a hit title, but it boast a dynamic cast, including Cate Blanchett as Lilith. Jamie Lee Curtis also stars as Dr. Patricia Tannis, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black as Claptrap, and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina.

The first trailer for the movie has been released, showcasing its comedy, chaos, and epic fights. With most on-screen adaptations, Borderlands has a lot to account for and needs to appease the already established fanbase.

So far, the Borderlands trailer has given fans hope of its being a must-watch movie with the vibe of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Borderlands movie trailer is finally here

Per the trailer, Lilith is back on her home planet not because she wants to. She ventures with a group of outlaws to find a secret treasure hidden in a vault that’s beyond their wildest dreams.

The Borderlands trailer is everything you could have hoped for. Bringing to life the original video games, the movie will prove to be an explosion of color, gunfire, and other world adventure. Since the trailer’s release, fans are now hopeful the movie will do justice. Even the music was on point.

“It’s giving me Guardians of the Galaxy vibes which is a great thing,” said one fan about the trailer on X/Twitter. It’s likely due to the use of comedy, colorful setting, and the team dynamic going across the universe.

Another agreed that Borderlands has potential thanks to its cast. “Hear me out y’all, this actually looks good. The casting choices for some of these characters are top notch,” they commented.

“Now, this is more like it, Kevin Hart made this look easy, a blockbuster on the way,” said another.

Some commented that while the cast is a bit peculiar, the overall feel of the movie is something worth watching. Others hope the movie doesn’t change or “mess up” the original storyline. Borderlands was originally in the works since 2015, with Roth joining the project in 2020.

Borderlands is set to premiere on August 9, 2024.
