The internet is in full approval of a third-grade teacher charging her students rent for their desks and chairs.

Third-grade teacher Ms. L has gone viral on TikTok for sharing how she teaches her students financial literacy.

Charging her youngsters for their desks and chairs, Ms. L also applies fines for late work and other miscellaneous classroom shenanigans.

Though the students don’t have bills in the real world, viewers of Ms. L’s teachings have given her a full send, as they are impressed by her giving them a look into what to one day expect.

Students can cash in their extra money for a homework pass

Already having nearly a million TikTok followers, it’s no wonder why Ms. L’s third-grade class has gone viral. In one of her recent videos, Ms. L explained how she teaches her students about their finances.

Though they use play money, the concept Ms. L aims to teach is one that some of her students may not have the chance to learn had she not implemented it in the classroom.

For starters, Ms. L charges each student for their desk and chair. The students must also pay for light, water, and electricity bills.

Though the students are used to Ms. L’s classroom standard of charging them at least $5 every other Friday, some can be heard in her video groaning about getting rid of their money.

However, Ms. L told The New York Post she started the program to “motivate” her students to have better attendance and behavior — and it’s proven successful.

Those who have viewed Ms. L’s viral financial literacy concept are thrilled, saying they wish they had a teacher like her growing up.

Another viewer added, “I sincerely appreciate this teacher she is teaching kids responsibility this is what teachers should be teaching kids.”

Luckily, the third graders also receive monetary incentives where they can cash in their money for a homework pass or to be a teacher for the day as well.
