nail tech calls customer babe and sparked debate online

A customer wasn’t happy after a nail tech called them “babe.” The internet has since reacted with divided opinions.

A nail technician out of New Jersey who goes by Humblemenails on TikTok recently shared a clip from her livestream.

During which, the nail tech called her customer “babe.” However, the customer showed instant discomfort and asked her not to call her that.

The nail tech then asked her TikTok followers what their opinions were, as she is now more confused than ever as to what to call her customers.

Customer says being called “babe” sounded too “sexual”

When the nail tech finished her customer’s set, she said, “You are all done babe!” Saying that she’s Puerto Rican and it’s cultural to call others pet names like “babe,” the nail tech was taken aback by her customer’s reaction.

Right after she said it, the customer responded by asking her, “Can you not call me that.” Confused, the nail tech then asked them, “Call you what?”

The customer then said it sounded “sexual” and made her uncomfortable. After they left, the nail tech asked in her TikTok video what her viewers thought.

“It absolutely didn’t sound sexual!! People are too sensitive these days,” wrote one user.

Another viewer agreed, “People just want a reason to complain. You were being nice!!”

There were, however, some viewers who thought the customer’s boundaries should always be put first.

“If someone says they don’t like it. Then respect that,” said one user. Many others also pointed out how neither parties were in the wrong.

Though she felt “disrespected,” the nail tech ended her TikTok by saying she didn’t post the whole interaction because she wanted to protect the customer. She also said she won’t be ‘blocking’ them. However, odds are the customer won’t be returning.
