OnePlus 12 is now official with new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, better cameras, and improved display. OnePlus 12R has also debuted as a more affordable option.

OnePlus just unveiled its latest pair of smartphones. The OnePlus 12 doesn’t come as a surprise as the phone is already official in China, but the OnePlus 12R is a cause for some celebration. It launches as a more affordable sibling to the OnePlus 12 and offers a solid bounce for the ounce.

The OnePlus 12 has its own set of advantages. The camera system has seen improvements and the addition of a new periscope camera. It also features the latest processor from Qualcomm and a battery larger than most flagship phones out there. However, you will also pay more for the OnePlus 12 than you did for the OnePlus 11.

OnePlus 12 reminds us of the good old OnePlus

OnePlus phones gained recognition as “flagship killers,” a reputation they upheld for the longest time. However, the company lately faced criticism for its confusing product lineup.

However, the company realized it soon and fixed most things with the OnePlus 11. And the latest OnePlus 12 appears to be the OnePlus phone with the least flaws.

It is built around a massive 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits peak brightness (more than any other phone in the market). The phone’s design is essentially the same as last year, but it looks more refined.

OnePlus 12 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and brings a massive camera upgrade in the form of a new 64MP periscope telephoto lens. The main camera still uses the same 50MP sensor. The 48MP ultrawide also remains the same. The handset features a 32MP selfie shooter on the front.

Another major improvement is the large battery. The phone now gets a large 5,400mAh battery (OnePlus 11 packs a 5,000mAh unit). It supports 80W wired charging and an impressive 50W wireless charging.

OnePlus 12’s price starts at $799, which is $100 more than its predecessor. However, the phone’s base model now packs 256GB onboard storage. You can get the OnePlus 12 in Flowy Emerald and Silky Black starting February 7. Pre-orders start today.

OnePlus 12R is budget-friendly & caters to less-demanding users

OnePlus 12R is a more affordable alternative to the OnePlus 12. It’s the first time OnePlus is bringing its “R” models to the US and Canada. The company last year announced the OnePlus 11R but it was exclusive to India.

OnePlus 12R has the same display as the OnePlus 12 but is slightly smaller at 6.78 inches. It is powered by the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and gets a toned-down camera system. While the main camera is the same 50MP unit as the OnePlus 12, the smartphone features an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro shooter.

However, the OnePlus 12R one-ups the OnePlus 12 in terms of battery size. It gets a 5,500mAh unit, which is 100mAh more than the OnePlus 12. It remains to be seen what this will mean in real-world usage.

OnePlus 12R supports 80W wired charging but misses on wireless charging. You can get the phone with a starting price of $499. It is offered in Iron Gray and Cool Blue. It will be available for purchase starting February 13.
