Prolific handheld creator Ayaneo is back again with the Ayaneo Flip, another retro-inspired creation, this time taking design cues from the Nintendo DS.

Ayaneo is a name that handheld aficionados have become familiar with with the company regularly launching new products that combine modern components with retro-inspired designs to create devices such as the Retro Mini PC AM-01 or the Ayaneo Slide handheld. The latest in the line to be officially launched is the Ayaneo Flip, which comes in two varieties, both inspired by the classic Nintendo DS handheld.

The Nintendo DS and its successor the 3DS were widely beloved, not only for their great games, but also for their design. The Ayaneo Flip has drawn on several elements of this to create two types of device, the Ayaneo Flip KB and the Ayeno Flip DS.

Retro styling with modern power

The Flip DS has two screens like the Nintendo DS that inspired it, complete with a secondary touch screen, which offers a resolution of 960×640 with a 3:2 aspect ratio. The AYASpace software launcher has been specially adapted to take advantage of this feature. The second version of the device is the Ayaneo Flip KB, which similar to the Ayaneo Slide features a fully functional keyboard with an automatic backlight that activates when the device is opened.

Both versions feature a 7-inch IPS screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as Hall Effect joysticks and Hall sensor triggers, haptic feedback, and a cooling system that combines liquid and air cooling to ensure the best performance for the internal components.

There are two chips planned to power these devices, the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U and the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. The AMD Ryzen 7 7840U is expected to be available first, with plans to begin shipping in March 2024.

The IndieGoGo page for the Ayaneo Flip is active, with the Ayaneo Flip DS available at an Early Bird price of $739, while the Flip KB starts at $699.
