Apple Vision Pro will launch without these major streaming apps. You may have to access them through a web browser, instead.

The Apple Vision Pro is a $3,499 VR headset and entertainment is one of its top purposes. The long-awaited product launches with 150 3D movies, which in itself is a disappointing number. But the more disappointing fact is that Vision Pro will be missing major streaming apps at launch.

Reports suggest Vision Pro will launch without a YouTube app because the video streaming service isn’t building one. Also, there may not be dedicated apps for Spotify and Netflix on the Vision Pro. Users might have to use these apps through the web instead. This could be a huge blow for users who wanted to pick up a Vision Pro for the entertainment value alone.

YouTube, Netflix, & Spotify steering clear of Vision Pro

According to a Bloomberg report, YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix have decided to not launch a dedicated app for the upcoming Apple Vision Pro. The popular video and music services say they don’t expect to enable their iPad app to run on the device, either.

If you plan on getting the Vision Pro, you’ll have to access YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix from the web browser instead.

Netflix’s content may be far less immersive on a web browser than the app. It will also prevent you from watching content offline and could limit the resolution, as the video quality on Netflix’s website varies by browser, suggests The Verge.

Unlike Netflix, streaming services like Disney Plus, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount Plus will have a dedicated app to let you watch movies and TV shows.

What’s interesting is that Netflix made their iPad app compatible with Vision Pro during the developer testing phase but now it is taking a pass. This decision doesn’t seem to be due to technical difficulties. It’s worth noting the streaming service competes directly with Apple TV+.

The lack of YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix apps might make the Vision Pro less tempting for some buyers. The VR headset will be available for pre-order starting today, January 19, with open sales starting February 2.
