Patrick Mahommes’ father faces prison time for third DWI days before Super Bowl

Days before the Super Bowl, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ father was arrested on suspicion of DUI and is now facing up to 10 years in prison.

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to face off against the San Francisco 49ers in this year’s Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11 in Las Vegas.

However, superstar Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may have other matters on his mind after his father was arrested for a third time for DUI.

Patrick Mahomes Sr.’s arrest occurred on Saturday in Texas, eight days before the Super Bowl. The former Mets pitcher had been supporting his son’s playoff games for the last year but now will face up to 10 years in prison due to his third offense.

This is not the first time Mahomes Sr. has had to face jail time as a possible consequence for his actions, having previously served 40 days on weekends in 2019 and 2020 for his second DUI charge.

However, according to Texas law, that number might just go up by a mile as Mahomes Sr. is now looking at a 2-to-10-year prison term if convicted. This is due to his third DUI offense being a third-degree felony.

His bond was set at $10,000 and Mahomes Sr. was released from the Smith County Jail a day after his arrest on Sunday afternoon.

NFL fans have since expressed concern over how the arrest will affect Mahomes Jr.’s performance during the Super Bowl.

“This will impact Mahomes Jr. as he prepares to play in the Super Bowl, but hopefully, he can stay focused on the game and let his dad handle his own issues,” one person tweeted. “It’s a difficult situation for anyone to deal with, let alone someone in the spotlight like Mahomes Jr.”
