The reveal of Pokemon Legends Z-A and the return of Mega Evolution have players hoping even more Pokemon get the upgrade.

Pokemon Legends Z-A took fans by surprise when it recently was announced during Pokemon Day 2024.

The Kalos-based game is bringing players to what seems to be a new, futuristic version of Lumiose City and features the return of a staple Generation 6 mechanic: Mega Evolution.

The beloved feature has been absent from the main series since the end of Gen 7. Now, its promised return has fans hoping more Pokemon get Mega Evolutions this time around, and many are sharing their wishlists.

Fans share what Pokemon they want to see get new Mega Evolutions

The unexpected announcement has fans sharing their own Mega Evolution concepts on social media.

First, some are speculating what the game’s starters will be. Assuming Pokemon Legends Z-A follows Legends Arceus’ example, the starters will come from three different regions that aren’t Kalos and their final evolutions will have some twist, presumably Mega Evolution.

This narrows the list down a bit, as the Gen 1 and Gen 3 starters already have Megas, and Rowlet, Oshawott, and Cyndaquil were starters in Legends Arceus. That leaves five Pokemon of each type as potential starters for Legends Z-A which, as Pokemon VCG player Wolfey pointed out, means a 1 in 5 chance of Mega Incineroar.

Others pointed out the series’ general favoritism for Charizard and Mewtwo, who already have two Mega Evolutions each. This has some fans expecting additional Megas for the two, though most seem less than enthusiastic about the prospect of Mega Mewtwo A or Mega Charizard Z.

“With the return of Mega Evolution, a new, collective fear looms over the Pokémon community…MEGA CHARIZARD Z?!” said one Twitter user.

Another shared in the sentiment, saying “charizard and mewtwo are getting a third mega evolution form aren’t they.”

Of course, fans have also had their personal wishlists since the days of the 3DS era Pokemon games. Pokemon Legends Z-A presents another opportunity for these to become a reality. And, considering the only existing Pokemon introduced after Gen 4 with Mega Evolutions are Audino and Diancie, fans are hoping that more later-Gen Pokemon get the Mega treatment.

“Manifesting a Mega Hydreigon,” said one Reddit user. Other popular candidates include Haxorus, the Kalos starters, and Flygon, the last of whom reportedly had its planned Mega scrapped over design issues.

Regardless of who actually ends up making the cut, the consensus from the Pokemon community on Mega Evolution’s return seems to be overwhelmingly positive.
