Overwatch pros Taimou and Apply rage at Sigma, double barrier

Sigma isn’t even legal in the Overwatch League or Contenders yet, but that hasn’t stopped pro players Timo ‘Taimou’ Kettunen and Damon ‘Apply’ Conti from raging at the game’s latest hero.

Taimou, who has expressed his dislike of heroes like D.va in the past, seems equally as annoyed, if not more so, at the oppressiveness of double barrier.

The Finnish veteran took to Twitter on August 22 to voice his frustration.

Blizzard EntertainmentSigma’s barrier can be tough to play around.

“I love playing against Sigma. I have to ignore and run away from him since I cant do damage to him unless I play doomfist T_T,” the Dallas Fuel hitscan wrote.

“In addition to blocking your damage, he can block healing from your teammates if he chases you. Frustrating to say the least,” he added. Sigma can use his barrier to stop healing from supports such as Ana and even Lucio who heal in an area of effect that gets blocked by shields.

“And do all of this insanely reliably with unlimited range… Should have given him a movement ability while we were at it Kappa,” the APEX season one champion joked.

Players on ladder are already dealing with the double barrier shenanigans caused by Orisa and Sigma, the latter of which can also use kinetic grasp ability to block even more incoming damage and become increasingly tankier.

Meanwhile, American DPS player Apply chimed in on the situation, saying, “impressive that not one person at blizzard thought that sigma wasnt a good idea go next i guess.”

“Shields were a mistake,” Taimou replied. “And I used to whine about Dive being oppressive (which it was) but nothing to this extent yeet.”

With shields becoming increasingly problematic in Overwatch, one has to wonder if the developers will address the issue in some capacity – either with nerfs or a potential new hero.

Sigma will be legal for the Overwatch League post-season play-in and the playoffs themselves.

Only time will tell if players can adapt to double barrier themselves or if some intervention will be needed.
