Overwatch fans keep comparing Baptiste to a Team Fortress 2 character

Overwatch’s newest hero, Baptiste, has taken the game’s community by storm since he was released to the PTR on Tuesday February 26 – and some fans are comparing him to one of Overwatch’s predecessors.

Team Fortress 2 is a team-based multiplayer shooter game by Valve that came out in 2007, and many consider it to be the spiritual predecessor to Overwatch (even a few Overwatch pros got their start in the game).

Some have insisted that Blizzard was heavily influenced by TF2 when creating Overwatch, and now, a lot of people have noticed some similarities between Baptiste and a character from TF2.

‘Demoman’ is a class in TF2 who also wields a grenade launcher, and fans haven’t been able to resist comparing him and Baptiste.

They do bear a striking resemblance, and Mike, an animator on Twitter, showed how the simple addition of an eyepatch would basically make Baptiste into his TF2 counterpart.

Past the grenade launcher and similar looks though, the two characters don’t have that much in common. Baptiste is from Haiti, while Demoman is from Scotland, and he’s not really known as a healer.

Fans have also noticed Baptiste seems to have the same idle menu animation as Brigitte – but so do several other heroes on the Overwatch roster.

Baptiste has been the main draw to the PTR for most Overwatch players, but there’s also a large number of balance changes to heroes on the test realm as well.

We still don’t know exactly when Baptiste will be headed to live servers and consoles, but based on previous hero releases, he should be out of the PTR by mid to late March.
