Atlanta Reign roster reveal confirms Dafran will join the Overwatch League

The Atlanta Reign Overwatch League expansion franchise have announced their full team for Season Two.

Notably, the announcement includes confirmation that Daniel ‘Dafran’ Francesca will in fact be joining the Overwatch League as a player for Atlanta.

Dafran’s entry to the Overwatch League was reported well in advance of the official announcement. Between reports surfacing and the official announcement, however, Dafran maintained that the rumors were false and that he wouldn’t be joining the league.

One of the most popular streamers in Overwatch, Dafran originally made his name as a professional player for Selfless in the pre-OWL era before a high-profile suspension for his in-game behavior led to his retirement from competition.

Dafran said at the time of his retirement that he had no interest in returning to professional play and would likely go back to his previous job working at McDonald’s. Instead, he ultimately ended up becoming a full-time streamer, now among the most popular in Overwatch.

Atlanta is the first expansion franchise to build a team entirely from Overwatch League rookies. Though not all have confirmed their full rosters, so far at least Paris, Washington, Toronto, and Guangzhou will all feature a minimum of one Season One veteran.

For the rest of the squad, Atlanta looked to the various Contenders divisions around the world. The final Reign roster features players that were previously competing in Europe, North America, China and Korea, from teams including Lucky Future Zenith, Element Mystic, and Team Gigantti.

Season Two of the Overwatch League will kick off on February 14, 2019. It’s possible Atlanta will see action before then in pre-season matches, as took place ahead of Season One, but nothing has yet been announced.
