The Kansas City Chiefs were celebrating their third Super Bowl in the past half-decade on Wednesday when a tragedy broke out during the championship parade.
While celebrating the Super Bowl LVIII victory, chaos broke out, as reports of gunshots flooded social media. What was supposed to be a joyous day for the over one million fans in attendance turned into a mass shooting event that injured at least 22 and killed one.
The shooter was allegedly apprehended while vacating from the scene. According to a video on social media, a handful of civilians tackled and disarmed the threat, keeping them pinned to the ground until authorities arrived.
The woman who lost her life in the shooting, Lisa Lopez-Galvan, was a mother of two children. The 43-year-old’s family created a GoFundMe page to help deal with any financial hardships during this difficult time.
The goal was set at $75,000, and donations came in from all over. It didn’t take long to surpass that total, thanks to some help from one of the most famous NFL fans on the globe.

Eagle-eyed donors noticed Taylor Swift’s name among those who gave to Lopez-Galvan’s family, with two separate donations equaling $100,000.
Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs star Travis Kelce, included a brief message with her donations on the GoFundMe post. “Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift.”
A member from Swift’s camp later confirmed the pop icon’s six-figure donation while re-emphasizing that the focus should remain on the families impacted by Wednesday’s tragedy in Kansas City.
The GoFundMe is approaching $200,000, nearly three times its initial goal. Swift, along with several others around the country, are doing the best they can to lift a shell-shocked community.
