MTG Fallout Codsworth Mr Handy droid

This robotic butler can be found in MTG’s Universes Beyond: Fallout set, and it’s already making waves with players.

While the wasteland may be a harsh and unforgiving place, there’s no reason to struggle through it alone. Companions are a staple of the Fallout franchise, and the robotic Mr Handy butler Codsworth is one of the most helpful of them all.

Codsworth, Handy Helper is not only a friendly face for Fallout players, it’s shaping up to be one of the most useful cards in the entire set. Codsworth is so helpful in fact, that it’s likely to see play in a barrage of new equipment-focused decks beyond just Universes Beyond: Fallout

How Codsworth, Handy Helper works in MTG

MTG Fallout Codsworth card

While Codsworth, Handy Helper is not an aggressive powerhouse, it still provides incredible support for your deck through Commander protection, ramp, and equipment boosting.

This card isn’t just a mechanical marvel, it’s also a hell of a flavor win. Each of Codsworth’s abilities is perfectly tied into its role as a helper drone, NPC companion, and all-around excellent butler.

Codsworth’s first ability provides its controller’s Commander creatures with Ward 2, effectively shielding Codsworth’s master from incoming damage and making them difficult to target.

The secondary ability on this card allows Codsworth to provide his master with additional resources. Tapping Codsworth will add two white mana that can only be spent on auras and equipment, kitting out Creatures with buffs and gear.

Codsworth, Handy Helper’s final ability is a great boon for Equipment decks. Codsworth can be tapped at sorcery speed to equip an Aura or Equipment to another creature its player controls for free. In essence, this is Codsworth performing a sacred butler’s duty; helping their master get dressed.

MTG players react to Codsworth, Handy Helper

So far, MTG players are surprised at just how powerful Codsworth seems to be compared to its cheap mana cost.

Over on Reddit, user Structuremage asked:

“Why does this do so much?”

Commenter Musermat  was quick to provide a satisfactory answer for why Codsworth, Handy Helper comes with three useful abilities, stating simply:

“I mean, he does have three arms.”

Players will be able to get their hands on Codsworth, Handy Helper, and many more great new cards when MTG’s Universes Beyond: Fallout set launches on March 8
