WWE 2K24 is set to feature new cover athletes, including “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes. And, modes and features from the past are coming back for 2024.

Thanks to 2K and the WWE, wrestling fans received the first information on what’s coming to WWE 2K24 on, and there is a lot to be excited about.

The publisher confirmed that this year’s game will feature three new cover athletes on the standard and Deluxe editions, gameplay improvements, and a special Showcase that will highlight the Forty Years of WrestleMania.

And, front and center of WWE 2K24 will be “The American Nightmare.”

Cody Rhodes to be on cover of WWE 2K24

2K confirmed that Cody Rhodes will be on the cover of the standard edition of WWE 2K24. The honor comes just less than two years after Rhodes returned to the promotion at WrestleMania 38.

WWE 2K24 standard edition

As Rhodes will be on the cover, the standard edition comes with the aptly named Nightmare Family Pack as a pre-order bonus. It includes two alternate attires of Cody Rhodes, plus his father Dusty as playable characters.

Rhodes, though, won’t be the only cover athlete for WWE 2K24. The Deluxe edition will feature Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair. This marks the first time that WWE 2K will have female cover athletes.

There’ll also be a Forty Years of WrestleMania cover that features legendary stars, including The Rock, John Cena, and Shawn Michaels.

New match types and WrestleMania showcase part of WWE 2K24

2K also confirmed some of the features that wrestling fans can expect from WWE 2K24.

Among the new additions are new match types in WWE 2K24, including the Gauntlet Match, Casket Match, Ambulance Match, and Special Guest Referee Matches. Special Guest Referee Matches have not been in the current gen WWE games since the PS3/Xbox 360 era but those will return for this year.

Speaking of the PS3/Xbox 360 era, the last current-gen WWE game while those two consoles were the dominant force included a Thirty Years of WrestleMania showcase in WWE 2K14. For 2K24, the showcase becomes the Forty Years of WrestleMania Showcase. It’ll feature iconic matches from WrestleMania’s 40-year history.

Additionally, 2K has promised over 200 wrestlers for the roster, new weapons types — including trash cans and guitars — and the ability to throw weapons, and two new storylines for MyRise, the game’s career mode.

WWE 2K24 releases worldwide on March 8 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S. Those who order the Deluxe or Forty Years of WrestleMania editions will receive three days of early access beginning on March 5.
