How to counter Recon Senses in The Finals

The Finals players have been calling for a nerf to Recon Senses as the wall hack ability is seemingly overpowered, however, there are ways to counter it.

The Finals is a chaotic game that has settled on a new meta, for now, consisting of teams running two Medium class builds. The Medium class uses the Defibrillator, which revives allies quickly and easily, and the Recon Senses ability.

Players have called for a nerf to Recon Senses, as the wall hack ability gives players a massive amount of information for the team and the user.

While the ability might seem overwhelming, there are drawbacks and direct counters that most builds have in the equipment locker. There are also items scattered around the map that players can use to hide from enemies using Recon Senses.

Countering Recon Senses in The Finals

Firstly, Recon Senses only shows enemies through walls, meaning players won’t get an indication for the opposition if they are out in the open. While this is fairly obvious, some players believe Recon Senses is a permanent tracking ability. It also weakens the further away from a target the player is, and the ping can only be seen by the user.

If an enemy is running Recon, and a Light Class player is using Cloaking Device and is in the same room then it should be an easy kill for the Light (in theory).

Secondly, Recon Senses does not work through smoke. As demonstrated by Reddit user u/Gellix on The Finals’ page, smoke grenades and canisters block the ability.

Players running Recon Senses can still clock teams at a distance and relay where enemies are coming from. However, Recon Senses should be no use once a fight starts up at close range if players throw a smoke grenade, or grab a gas canister and throw it around.

With Recon Senses seemingly running rampant in patch 1.5, players should add a smoke grenade to their equipment to counter the current meta.
