A new trap has been leaked from the latest Fortnite Battle Royale update

Dataminers sifting through the files of the v6.0 update have discovered assets for a new ‘Freeze Trap’ that could be making its way to Fortnite Battle Royale.

The Freeze Trap was found in the ‘Athena’ directory of the games files, a place where only Fortnite Battle Royale assets are stored.

The asset, which is classed as a ‘Rare’ item, is described as a trap which “Hits all enemies on trap when triggered doing small damage and slowing players.”

While the files don’t show how much damage the trap does, it does confirm that the item will be able to be placed on any flat surface, as file names featuring the terms floor, wall and ceiling are all spotted in the Athena folder.

The item’s description states that it will slow players, however it’s still unclear how long players will actually be hindered by the trap.

The use of the term ‘slow’ seems to indicate that the item won’t freeze players in place, but rather suggests that they may still be able to move, just at a greatly reduced speed.

The Freeze Trap is an item that already exists in Fortnite’s other mode, Save The World, but this would be the first time it’s made an appearance in the battle royale portion of the game.

Of course, as with all leaks, there is no guarantee that the item will appear in the game until it is officially announced by Epic Games.
