Jose Mourinho believes he has ‘unfinished business’ at Manchester United and is eyeing a sensational return to the Old Trafford hot seat, according to reports.

The legendary Portuguese manager has seen his career go downhill since his first reign at United came to an end in December, 2018.

Mourinho endured a difficult spell at Tottenham Hotspur which ended after 18 months and then took over at Roma in in May 2021.

There was a reprieve in his next job as Roma manager, in which he won the first ever Europa Conference League and then reached the Europa League final the following season.

However, Mourinho’s time in the Italian capital came to an end on January 16 with Roma down in ninth place in Serie A.

Now out of work, Mourinho is keen on a return becoming United boss for the second time. Erik ten Hag is under pressure in Manchester after a poor start to the season.

According to the Daily Mail, who was quoting a friend of Mourinho: “His ambition is to return to United. He feels like he has unfinished business there after how it ended last time and he had made it his mission to go back.”

Manchester United supporters voice concerns

Mourinho’s first tenure at United ended in disaster, with morale in the changing room at a record low and several talented players left void of confidence. He was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and results immediately picked up in the aftermath.

Many United fans aren’t exactly thrilled at the prospect of Mourinho returning to the club. “I’m sorry but NO!!” one wrote on X.

“This is unfair on Erik Ten Hag,” posted one, while another said: “I can’t see this happening tbh. I think his time has gone with his type of coaching.”

Another simply wrote: No thanks.”
