Final Fantasy XIV fans have noticed that the latest DLC for The Sims 4 features a subtle nod to the Shadowbringers expansion.

Final Fantasy XIV is filled with references to other franchises, and we don’t mean the many crossovers it has with other Final Fantasy titles and different video game series. The most recent of which was a divisive Fall Guys crossover.

As Final Fantasy XIV has so many quest names, NPCs, items, and many books worth of dialogue, the localization team has been given free rein to fill the MMO with as many references as they can, covering all of pop culture.

The popularity of Final Fantasy XIV is such that other video games have referenced it as well, one of which is The Sims 4. It’s clear some developers are massive fans of Eorzea and love to fit in as many references as possible.

Sims 4 DLC has added an FF14 Shadowbringers reference

A user on the FFXIV subreddit shared an image of an item added in the latest DLC pack for The Sims 4. Players can purchase a Spire-Shaped Gemstone, described as a “mini crystal tower that an exarch would be proud of.” It’s a reference to the Crystal Tower and the Exarch from Final Fantasy XIV’s Shadowbringers expansion.

“There’s quite a few Shadowbringer cameos in Werewolves pack alone, and some scattered along other releases ever since,” one fan wrote.

Another said, “Someone on their team must be a really big XIV fan seeing the amount of references in the comments alone.”

“Oh god what was the other reference from awhile back. I can’t remember what it was. Someone on the dev team is a huge FF14 fan,” one fan pointed out.

Someone else added, “In Growing Together a child sim can draw a starbird on a drawing table. Also I think there’s some joke about Miqo’te on a cat tree.”

Much like Final Fantasy XIV, The Sims franchise has its fair share of text, considering the sheer number of items you can buy and use, more of which are added with each expansion. As such, there’s plenty of room to slide in references to Eorzea, and hopefully, more will be added in the future.
