FF7 Rebirth players spot returning fan-favorite character in trailer
Square EnixA new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been released, and fans think they’ve spotted a returning character from Final Fantasy VII Remake.
While Final Fantasy VII Remake remade the Midgar section of the original game, it also added new characters and canonized people from spin-offs, including several from the novels.
One of the new characters introduced in Final Fantasy VII Remake was Roche, a bike-riding SOLDIER member and a rival for Cloud. Roche appeared during new game sections, where Cloud and the Avalanche members infiltrated a Shinra warehouse.
Roche and Cloud have an epic duel, resulting in Cloud’s victory and Roche escaping on his bike. He vanishes from the story, though he does appear in Yuffie’s storyline in the INTERmission DLC as an opponent in the Fort Condor minigame.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is due to launch soon, and Square Enix is ramping up the promotion for the game. A new trailer labeled “Destined for Rebirth” has been released, and fans on the FFVII Remake Reddit think they’ve spotted a familiar face in the Junon parade scene.
“Had a feeling Roche was going to be a recurring character and couldn’t be happier to see him in a trailer. He really sells the idea that to be in Soldier, you have to be some level of unhinged,” one user wrote, while another said, “WE ARE SO BACK!!! so happy they are doing something more with this character.”
Unfortunately, his placement at the Junon parade could lead to a dark fate for Roche, as one fan explains: “So this guy will be the Jenova monster on the boat right? As soldier he’s compatible with her cells yes? Sephiroth can turn him into the boat monster right?”
If he survives, then he has a natural place in the story, thanks to the return of the Gold Saucer theme park. “Dude needs to be an opponent in chocobo racing,” one user said “On a red chocobo, making motorcycle noises with his mouth the whole time.”
As a brand new character in the Final Fantasy VII Remake continuity, Roche can potentially be a major player in the future. It’s likelier that he’ll retain his role as a fun miniboss, possibly returning for more battles with Cloud in the future.
