EA has accidentally given “half the community” a Messi TOTY card through a glitch, quickly disabling Squad Building Challenges as a result.

As EA FC 24 goes through its Team of The Year event, players were eagerly waiting for the new 86+ picks which were being awarded for completing their Squad Building Challenges.

This event was a real treat, with players being able to pick player cards from leagues with a TOTY player, all with a minimum rating of 86+, it was a great event to bolster your squad.

However, there was a problem with the picks, as the game was rewarding so many Messi TOTY cards that EA was forced to disable the SBCs entirely.

“We have identified an issue with the 86+ TOTY Leagues SBC,” EA Sports FC Communications account shared on the matter. “As a result we have disabled SBC.”

The Messi TOTY card is arguably the best card you can get in Ultimate Team, with an amazing 97 rating and a plethora of incredible stats for a Centre Foward.

Not only that, it’s one of the most valuable cards, costing nearly 10 million FUT coins. For context, each match won on Ultimate Team earns you around 500 – 700 coins. Buying 5900 FUT coins would cost you roughly $50 USD.

Needless to say, you could play Ultimate Team for months and not be able to afford the Messi TOTY, that’s how rare and expensive it’s supposed to be.

As for why the glitch happened in the first place, EA FC 24 News explains it best. The TOTY pick assigns a league for each of the three slots you could choose from. The pick then selects an 86+ rated player from the league for each slot.

So for example, if the slot wants to give you a Premier League player in that slot, you could someone like Andrew Roberson or even Erling Haaland. It’s down to your luck.

However, the problem is Messi is the only 86+ player in the MLS, which means every single MLS slot the pick gave always gives you the insanely valuable card.
