The fun of Last Epoch’s skill trees has Diablo 4 players wanting a rework to greatly improve its current skill system.

After a lengthy early access period, Eleventh Hour Games’ much-anticipated ARPG, Last Epoch, has launched in full on PC, Mac, and Linux.

The experience has an old-school Diablo feel that has especially hooked Blizzard fans, many of whom have applauded Eleventh Hour for capturing the essence of Necromancy gameplay.

And it seems the praise will persist for some time to come. In fact, a contingent of D4 users hope Last Epoch’s success will inspire Blizzard to rethink some of its current in-game systems.

Diablo 4 fans want Blizzard to copy Last Epoch’s skill tree

A Reddit user’s plea for a skill tree rework in Diablo 4 quickly took a different turn in the comments. The original poster noted that Diablo 3’s skills each boast five variants, engendering plenty of variety with respect to build types.

D4 pales in comparison, its skills merely offering “20% dmg reduction for 3 seconds or stun for 2 seconds every 12 seconds.” While the Redditor hopes the Vessel of Hatred expansion will introduce a rework, others believe Blizzard needs to take things a step further and basically “copy Last Epoch.”

One user responded to the post saying, “Last Epoch skills literally have their own skill tree and they have 1/80th the budget. It’s embarrassing for Blizzard.”

Another Diablo 4 player praised Last Epoch for its inventive build combinations. “I’m having so much fun with LE skill trees. You can try a lot of crazy combinations and then add some cool items to even further these builds,” the user wrote.

“LE skill tree is dope, I hope d4 can learn from it,” someone else chimed in further down the thread.

For months, Last Epoch players have applauded it for featuring one of the best skill and itemization systems in games. Skills and the passive abilities accompanying them allow for lots of depth and versatility that Diablo 4 currently lacks, especially given the way skills and items complement each other.

The good news is that Blizzard continues to iterate on Diablo, meaning that significant changes could be sitting beyond the horizon. Players can only hope that said changes continue to address their feedback.
