Professional CS:GO player Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke, who currently represents OpTic Gaming, has responded to criticism in a series of revealing tweets in the early hours of October 4.

Following Duncan “Thorin” Shields’ fascinating feature on the Dane, in which he refers to K0nfig as “one of CS:GO’s lost talents and tragic cases”, he wrote out an eye-opening series of posts addressing the criticism – saying that Thorin is completely right.

Kicking off the long series of tweets, K0nfig promises to return to “god-tier form” before saying that he has been “a bad professional and spent my hours wrong.”

He continues: “I have been an arrogant idiot thinking everything would come easy, which it never will. I’m honestly sorry for my bad choices. I have been lying to myself thinking I was still a top player but I’m not.”

Following up, K0nfig directly addressed his fans and former teammates.

“I regret so many things and I apologize to everyone, to old teammates as well as to you fans. I’m going to change and become the k0nfig you remember. It’s very sad that it has reached this point before I realized it. I won’t look the other way anymore and try to hide. This is my return.”

It’s rare that we get to see professional players address the issues they face so candidly and be so open in their shortcomings, but this may just be the inspiration k0nfig needs to become one of the greatest talents in CS:GO once again.

Most recently, k0nfig and his OpTic teammates were knocked out of Dreamhack Masters Malmö with a top 12 placement. After a shock win over Team Liquid in the opening round, OpTic fell short against Natus Vincere and mousesports respectively, ending their run in the Swedish city abruptly.
