Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 Reloaded patch notes: MCW nerf, STB buff, Ranked Play, more

Kurt Perry
New Modern Warfare 3 skins available in Ranked Play.

Season 1 Reloaded of Modern Warfare 3 has arrived bringing with it the massively anticipated Ranked Play alongside a new map, three new game modes, and a variety of weapon changes and new guns to try out.

When it was released on December 8, 2023, Season 1 introduced multiple new maps, killstreaks, weapons, and Aftermarket Parts. The reception to this was generally positive even if certain additions like the JAK Bullseye optic didn’t go down so well.

Just over a month later Season 1 Reloaded is here adding more content to Modern Warfare 3 for fans to unlock and explore. Most notably, this includes the return of Ranked Play bringing competitive gameplay back to Call of Duty.

Contents

Ranked Play is available

Ranked Play has arrived in Season 1 Reloaded finally adding a competitive mode for Call of Duty’s most dedicated players to obsess over. As in MW2, this is a 4v4 game mode that uses the same maps, restrictions, and modes as the Call of Duty League.

To play Ranked Play you need to first reach Level 55. Once this rank is obtained you can grind your way through the ranks beginning with Bronze 1 and potentially climbing to Iridescent or even Top 250. Playing games and finishing in a higher rank will reward unique cosmetics that cannot be obtained elsewhere.

New game modes

Two returning game modes and one brand new one are being added to Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer in Season 1 Reloaded. These new modes are Team Gunfight, Headquarters, and Infected.

Here’s what you can expect from all three game modes:

  • Team Gunfight: Experience Gunfight on a larger scale. In this version, players compete in 6v6 across standard Multiplayer maps. As with traditional Gunfight, all players will receive the same randomized Loadout at the start of each round. This Loadout changes throughout the match. Adapt to what you’re given and wipe out the competition.
  • Headquarters: Secure the Headquarters objective and hold the position as long as possible to accrue points. Dig in tight, as respawns are disabled for the defending team. The objective rotates around the map throughout the match, so be ready to change your position on the fly.
  • Infected: Begin the match with one player randomly assigned as the starting infected. The infected player’s goal is to eliminate and transform all the other players into infected Operators who then join their side, while the remaining survivors must use their best skills and strategies to keep the infected at bay.

MW3’s new multiplayer map

The lone multiplayer map introduced in MW3 Season 1 Reloaded is Rio. This new map has been added to the core 6v6 rotation across most game modes in addition to a dedicated Rio 24/7 game mode.

Based in Brazil, Rio is described as an “upscale shopping center in Rio de Janeiro in a new medium-sized 6v6 Multiplayer map featuring a central indoor mall surrounded by Main Street, a tram station, a market, a plaza and café, and residential spaces.”

New Rio multiplayer map in Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 Reloaded.
Rio is a medium-sized map with most of the action taking place in the shopping center.
