Since the Sonic movie was announced, longtime fans were cautious in their approach to Hollywood’s spin on the franchise. Then they got their full look at the World’s Fastest Hedgehog, much to the internet’s disappointment.

But at least some eagle-eyed anime fans have found something to like about the full reveal for the upcoming movie adaptation, that included a famous scene from JoJo’s.

Fans of the anime might have had to look twice on their first run through of the latest Sonic the Hedgehog trailer.

Where’s the Jojo reference in Sonic the Hedgehog?

At the tail end of the trailer, Sonic is seen surrounded by dozens of Dr. Robotnik’s drones, and they all have their sights set on the Speed Demon.

When the Moustache Moron gives the order to unleash all the missiles, the trailer gives us a look into how Sonic is taking in the moment.

While most of the world was seeing one of the only highlights of the trailer, anime fans were seeing a call back to a similarly perilous moment in a hero’s journey.

Famous JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure scene

Although the moods are strikingly different, the trailer captures the famous scene in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s second season when Jotaro was locked in an intense duel with Dio.

After using his Stand called “the World” to freeze time, Dio launches a horde of knifes at Jotaro to see the full capabilities of Jo’s Stand, Star Platinum. In doing so, Jo can be seen momentarily surrounded by knives from all sides, similar to Sonic in the trailer.

The similarities struck a chord with a lot of anime fans that were caught off guard by the seemingly intentional call back to the anime.

The trailer failed to impress a lot of fans, and time will tell if the Sonic movie will be able to change their tunes when it premieres. But for the time being, at least some JoJo fans have something to like about the new trailer
