McDonald's partners with Studio Pierrot on new anime

McDonald’s is partnering up with the iconic studio behind Naruto, Bleach, and a plethora of legendary shows, Studio Pierrot, on a new anime.

The lore of McDonald’s and anime is a surprisingly long one, with the world’s largest restaurant chain frequently being featured in various shows, although not exactly as its brand name.

Be it WcDonald’s or McDynald’s, McDonald’s knock-offs in anime are everywhere, as very rarely does the fast food chain appear as itself in shows, despite the plethora of cross promotions it has done with various animes, and even a viral anime mini-series ad campaign.

But now McDonald’s is getting ready to truly enter the canon of anime as it has announced a new project with Studio Pierrot on a new anime.

Announced on February 20, the teaser dropped too much fanfare from the anime community, and it seems to be promising an entire story based around McDonald’s fries and nuggets.

The announcement was reticent on details of what the plotline would be, or even if it would just be an ONA or if it would be an entire mini-series. However, we know it’s going to be a colorful romp with the restaurant taking center stage.

The anime is set to release on February 26, with what seems to be an ad campaign running across participating McDonald’s branches.

The studio McDonald’s is partnering up with, Studio Pierrot, is perhaps one of the most iconic studios in the anime industry. Around since 1979, the studio is responsible for shows like Naruto, Bleach, and Tokyo Ghoul.

Even past some of anime’s most famous names, they’re behind cult classics like Great Teacher Onizuka, Yu Yu Hakusho and Ghost Stories. So fans will need to wait until February 26 to see what McDonald’s and Studio Pierrot has cooking up.
