Anime fans slap down Gojo vs Goku popularity debate

Is it possible to topple Goku’s fame? A Jujutsu Kaisen fan proposes Gojo stands a chance in a popularity contest against Dragon Ball’s leading man – but they’ve quickly been corrected.

Dragon Ball and Jujutsu Kaisen both have their merits as anime and manga with their own impacts on their fanbases and the overall industry. With that said, if you were given two characters from either show, which one would be more immediately recognizable?

It’s not uncommon for anime fans to buck horns when debating subjects such as “Who’s the better character,” “Who’s the stronger character,” or in this case, “Who’s the more popular character?” as a Jujutsu Kaisen fan brings the terror of the Dragon Ball community down upon them with the controversial question.

Anime fans say Goku vs Gojo has an obvious winner

After traveling through the social media grapevine, landing on the Dragon Ball Super subreddit, u/isaac_ui sparks a conversation about Goku’s popularity and where fans have seen Dragon Ball’s lead appear in the strangest of places.

Though no one can deny Gojo’s popularity, Goku is on another level. Not just because of Dragon Ball’s longevity but the sheer fact that everyone knows who Goku is, you could ask someone who’s never seen a single anime episode, and they could still know who Goku is. He’s that big.

In the comment section of the original Twitter/X post, the majority of votes go Goku’s way, with even Jujutsu Kaisen fans saying, “Gojo’s good, but Goku is more popular.” Back in the subreddit u/mercwiththemouth518 states that only one character may be as, if not more, recognizable in anime than Son Goku.

While Gojo has his moments as a character, and Pikachu is the face of the entire Pokemon gaming and anime franchise, no one can shirk Goku’s popularity as one of the biggest names in anime and manga. Potentially going as far as saying he’s the face of the entire anime industry isn’t that much of a wild claim to make.
