A Netflix cancellation is something we’re all used to – but one has left fans ‘confused’ after being announced four years after the show aired.

Click on any social media post made by Netflix and you’re likely to see legions of responses demanding answers for why their favorite show has been cancelled.

Over the last few years, sudden disappearances of shows have become a lot more commonplace, with titles such as 1899, Masters of the Universe, and I Am Not Okay With This all falling victim to the streaming platform’s curse.

However, one latest cancellation has left fans more than a little confused, being announced four years after the show originally aired.

Fans ‘confused’ after Netflix cancel Ratched

2020 Netflix series Ratched – starring Sarah Paulson and Cynthia Nixon – has officially been canceled by the streaming platform, according to Deadline.

However, there has been plenty of confusion over why this announcement is being made now, with the show having been off our screens – in an official capacity – for four years.

Telling the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched – the famed character from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – set in 1947, the report suggests that its leading star Sarah Paulson has confirmed that Season 2 won’t be happening.

“It came out FOUR YEARS AGO,” one fan posted on X/Twitter in response to the Netflix announcement. “I had assumed it was already canceled. You cannot have these long stretches between seasons and still expect audiences to care.”

Another fan agreed: “Yes! After a year of silence, I knew it wasn’t coming back. Netflix/Ryan should’ve said something, it shouldn’t be Sarah’s responsibility to confirm if it’s canceled or not.”

The series was created by Ryan Murphy, who is also behind Glee, American Horror Story, and Pose.

“I thought it was a limited series tbh, I had no idea it was supposed to even have a Season 2,” another user argued, with a fourth weighing in: “Why even bother having a show at Netflix, it’ll get canceled anyway.”

After four years on our Netflix accounts, Ratched has maintained a 62% score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, with an audience score of 69%.
