Amid the success of American Nightmare on Netflix, you may be keen to watch Gone Girl – so, here’s where it’s available to stream.

The latest hit documentary from the streamer chronicles the case of Denise Huskins, a woman who was abducted in 2015. Two days later, the supposed kidnapper freed her onto the street outside her family’s home.

During that brief window of disappearance, police started to pin the blame on her partner Aaron Quinn. Upon her return, she explained everything – but the authorities believed it was all an elaborate hoax, on account of the extraordinary and “far-fetched” nature of the testimony.

While their story was later confirmed as the investigation deepened, the media had described Huskins as the “real-life Gone Girl” – so, if American Nightmare has given you a notion to watch the movie, here’s where you can find it.

Is Gone Girl on Netflix?

No, Gone Girl isn’t available on Netflix right now.

We’ll update this space if it’s added to the streamer.

Where to watch Gone Girl

Gone Girl can only be bought or rented digitally via Amazon Prime and other on-demand platforms. It’s not currently available on any major streaming service.

Directed by David Fincher, the movie follows Nick (Ben Affleck) after his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) vanishes, seemingly leaving a trail of blood and rather suspicious clues in her wake. Everyone thinks it’s Nick, and he doesn’t do himself any favors – but there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

There’s a key difference between Gone Girl and the story behind American Nightmare: in Gone Girl, Amy is an unhappily married, bored woman who executes an elaborate plan to frame her husband for her murder. The events in American Nightmare only bear any resemblance to the film (and novel by Gillian Flynn) if you ignore everything past law enforcement’s assumptions and headlines early in the case.

The documentary’s co-creator Bernadette Higgins told Vanity Fair: “This was an extraordinary case in which the police jumped to such a ridiculous assumption based on absolutely nothing.

“Denise and Aaron felt there was nowhere for them to turn. They did everything right, you know: They went to the police, they gave all their information, they kept their powder dry. And still they were in this situation. They’re very conscious that if this could happen to them, it could happen to anyone.”
