Woman's TikTok shocks viewers after she dies post-surgery

Viewers have been left shocked after a woman documenting her weight loss via TikTok died following complications post-surgery.

A 20-year-old woman has died after flying to Turkey for gastric sleeve surgery. Morgan Ribeiro had used her trust fund to pay for the trip, documenting her journey on TikTok.

However, following a gastric sleeve fitting from Dr Serkan Bayil in Istanbul, Morgan collapsed while on her flight home. She was later pronounced dead after being taken to hospital for treatment.

Now, many are warning against cosmetic tourism and turning to Morgan’s TikTok as a tragic reminder of dangers of weight loss surgery.

In her final posts, Morgan shared her excitement about going through with the surgery, stating in one video that she was “ready for [her] life to finally begin.”

According to the doctor in charge of Morgan’s surgery, “She died due to an embolism on the flight, not due to complications from the surgery.” He went on to tell Mirror, “Her vital signs were good when she left us. The most fearful thing in these operations is leakage and she had zero leakage and because of this I think she had an embolism.”

Morgan’s mom Erin, however, disagrees and has called these claims “preposterous.” She told Mirror, “It was a laceration. It had been cut, we were told during the operation.. I was told that she was showing signs of fever immediately because her body was already going into septic shock.”

Now Erin is warning others of the dangers in cosmetic tourism, stating the industry has to be stopped in order to prevent deaths such as her daughter’s.

The last video to be shared on TikTok before the operation saw Morgan tell viewers she would ‘see them on the other side,’ a message that has stuck with many following her death.

“This breaks my heart, she was a young and beautiful woman,” one person wrote. “She should have had the medical support she needed in this country.”
