Niantic has revealed Palico Paintball changes that will be coming to Monster Hunter Now in a future update. Here’s exactly when and what you can expect.

Unlike regular Paintballs in Monster Hunter Now, Palico Paintballs don’t enable players to target specific monsters. Instead, creatures are tagged by the Hunter’s Palico, the series furry feline companion.

Not only does this give players some extra monsters to hunt, but it can prove useful when you’re out and about and not able to play the game. However, Palico Paintballs have proven rather divisive within the community, with many wanting Niantic to change how the AI marks monsters.

Well, Niantic has released an update on how it aims to fix the current issue surrounding Palico Paintballs, so here’s everything you need to know about the latest changes.

These Palico Paintball changes are a welcomed addition.

To prevent Palico from marking large monsters you intended to hunt in the field, Niantic has revealed changes that will be implemented in the upcoming update. We have outlined both the current and future changes below:

Current Palico Paintball mechanics

As of March 5, 2024, if you have Palico Paintballs and meet the following conditions, your Palico may automatically use Palico Paintballs to mark monsters in the field:

  • “Adventure Sync” is enabled
  • Walk a certain distance
  • Not in the middle of hunting a large monster

From February 8th, 2024, your Palico will no longer mark large monsters in the field while you are actively hunting them. However, your Palico may still mark a large monster while you are tapping it on the Main Screen or while you are on the Hunt Preparation Menu.

Future Palico Paintball changes

  • Palico will no longer mark large monsters that are displayed on the field during the app startup.
  • Palico will mark monsters that are not displayed on the field if the conditions are met.

So, there you have it, that’s everything we know about the Palico Paintball changes in Monster Hunter Now. Check out our MHN page for all the latest guides and updates.
