Lisandro Martinez is set for another spell on the sidelines

Lisandro Martinez is expected to be out for eight weeks but does not require surgery on the knee injury that forced him off in Manchester United’s win over West Ham.

Martinez required treatment after a second-half collision with Vladimir Coufal and, although he originally attempted to play on, was withdrawn just minutes later.

Martinez has been plagued by foot problems since fracturing a metatarsal in April but returned to the side last month.

However, his comeback only lasted four games and he is now set for another spell on the sidelines.

Club statement

A club statement said: “Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks.

“The Argentine defender left the field in the 71st minute of our 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

“We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season.”
