The FA Cup is heating up after a fourth round full of exciting action and shocking upsets.

Non-league’s Maidstone United is the story of the competition so far as they defeated Championship high-flyers Ipswich Town to advance to the fifth round. Meanwhile, League Two’s Wrexham could secure a match with Premier League opposition if they can advance past Blackburn Rovers in a replay.

There are still seven more Championship sides vying to win the competition so the chances for underdog fairytales remains high going into the fifth round.

Here is all you need to know about the last 16 of the competition.

What are the FA Cup fifth round fixtures?

  • Blackburn Rovers or Wrexham v Newcastle United
  • Chelsea or Aston Villa v Leeds United or Plymouth Argyle
  • Bournemouth v Leicester City
  • Liverpool v Watford or Southampton
  • Bristol City or Nottingham Forest v Manchester United
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers v Brighton & Hove Albion
  • Sheffield Wednesday or Coventry City v Maidstone United
  • Luton Town v Manchester City

When is the FA Cup fifth round?

The FA Cup fifth round proper will take place on the week commencing February 26, 2024. Instead of being at the weekend as is traditional, the fixtures will take place throughout the working week.

How to watch the FA Cup fifth round

A selection of the eight fixtures in the FA Cup round will be selected for broadcast and those will be split between BBC and ITV in the UK. The televised matches have not yet been confirmed.

Will there be extra-time and penalties or replays?

Though replays are in the FA Cup until the fourth round, they are no replays from the fifth round onwards. As a result, a winner must now be found on the day of the game and extra-time and penalties will be used to decide who advances if the game ends in a draw.
