Traveler reveals how you can get flight for free if you miss yours

A travel TikToker went viral after sharing a simple excuse that can help you get on a flight for free if you miss yours.

TikToker and traveler Jake (jakepeterson114) revealed the “one excuse” you can give the airline that will have them put you on the next flight for free, or at the very least, add you to the standby list.

According to the content creator, all you have to do is say that you had a flat tire. “Earlier today, I was running late for my flight because I had a flat tire. So I knew I wasn’t gonna make it,” he said in a viral 37-second clip with over 277,000 views,

“But fortunately, most airlines have a flat tire policy—American, Delta, United. The agent, there’s actually a button on their computer that says ‘flat tire policy,’ and they will, for free of charge, move you to the next flight.

“So next time you’re delayed because of a flat tire, use this trick. It could help you save you some money,” Jake concluded.

Many TikTok users confirmed the validity of this travel hack. “Real rule, but you don’t need any sort of excuse. Just make sure you’re not more than 2 hours late after your original scheduled flight departure,” one person commented.

“Most airlines’ “flat tire” policy also covers other issues out of your control, i.e., traffic jam or severe weather,” another said. “This is true I’ve used this… and yes, my Uber got a flat tire on the way to the airport,” a third added.

Others shared their own excuses that they’ve used in an attempt to avoid rebooking charges. “Got drunk and missed my flight. I was honest with agent and was booked on next flight no problem,” one said.

“I just tell them a family member (that doesn’t exist) died and they change it every time,” another stated. “Just have to cry hard enough.”
