A Baldur’s Gate 3 player got a pretty fitting and useful gift from Scratch, reminding everyone why the dog is the game’s best boy.

Out of the many, many characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s one just about everyone can agree is the best boy: Scratch.

The loyal and adorable dog can join your Camp in Act 1, giving you plenty of time to get to know him and give him lots of well-deserved pets – even if he does sometimes lead to Honor Mode run ending mishaps.

On top of being a great companion to keep summoned at all times, Scratch will sometimes hand over things he’s found at Camp. One player even got a pretty useful and appropriate item that has other fans of the game wondering how much thought Scratch put into their gifts.

As Reddit user qqruz123 shared to the BaldursGate3 subreddit, Scratch can give you a Potion of Animal Speaking.

This useful item works just like the spell Speak With Animals, allowing the user to understand and communicate with animals until their next Long Rest.

The idea of Scratch wanting to talk to you so much he finds a potion to make that possible is adorable. However, it does have some players rethinking their own gifts from Scratch.

“He was giving me a rope so idk what he was trying to tell me,” said one, leading other commenters to speculate whether Scratch wanted them to play a nice wholesome game of tug-of-war or was implying something darker.

For his part, Scratch does say, “All I know is I thought of you when I saw it,” when you do have Speak with Animals active. He only has an Intelligence score of 3, though, so it’s best not to take it too personally if this good boy says some junk reminds him of you.
