As this generation winds down, some Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players are reminiscing on their favorite elements such as Tera types, and how they could improve them.

It’s hard to think about it, but the recent Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Epilogue may have put a cap on our Paldean adventures, and tied up the stories of Arven, Penny, Carmine, Kieran, and many more into a neat bow.

While the long wait for Generation 10, or perhaps Black and White remakes, now begins in earnest, some fans are already breaking down their favorite parts of the most recent generation. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet may have their issues, but people also love a lot of the new elements introduced.

One of the mechanics that was fairly evenly praised throughout the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet community was the addition of Tera types. The new battle strategies opened up by the mechanics are fascinating, and still being explored, but for some fans, the game didn’t showcase this well enough.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players wish Tera types went harder during the story

One eager Pokemon Go player called katiekatz99 has shared a post on Reddit detailing their criticism of the way Tera types were handled in the game, and it seems a lot of fans agree.

The original comment opens by saying, “My one complaint on how Game Freak handled Terastilization mechanic during the Gym Battles was the Gym Leaders only Terastilize their Pokemon to match their Type specialty.”

Then they follow up, adding, “I would have kept like the first 2 gyms simply attempting to get maximum STAB to teach new players how the mechanic works. 3 through 5 would have them change types to counter their type weaknesses.”

It’s true, the Tera types used by characters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s story never strayed far from the path, and gym leaders especially seemed to only use a type that matched their gym. Tera types that played on their Pokemon’s weaknesses to counter them would add more strategy.

Fans are very happily sharing their opinion in the busy comments, with the conversation heating up, and arguments for both sides.

One comment says, “I definitely agree with this. I think it would be a cool play on type specialties to have gym leaders make a Pokémon not of their type become their type and elite four to make a Pokémon of their type become a type that counters their weaknesses.”

However, another comment says, “Just gonna throw it out there, I like the way they did it. Most of the gym terastal Pokemon directly resist something the Pokémon would have been weak to pre tera.”

Then another person adds, “You want a challenge, post-game and Online Battles are your go-to.”

It certainly feels like fans enjoy the Tera-type mechanic, so whether Game Freak explored the concept enough in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, hopefully, the community and especially competitive players continue to create fun strategies with it. Well, until Generation 10 anyway.
