Warcraft 2 rumors have been floating around over the past few months, suggesting that a sequel may be in the works.

World of Warcraft‘s success is on a singular scale: it’s the most popular and iconic MMORPG in video game history, with 2023 attracting 5.6 million active players.

In 2016, Hollywood attempted to bring the worlds of Azeroth and Draenor to the big screen with Warcraft, directed by Moon and Source Code’s Duncan Jones. While it was widely dismissed by critics (its Rotten Tomatoes score is 29%), it found incredible success overseas; more than half of its $439 million worldwide haul came from China.

Years later, fans seem to be under the impression that Warcraft 2 could be in development.

Is there going to be a Warcraft 2?

No, Warcraft 2 isn’t happening, nor is another movie in the franchise coming out.

In the past few months, fake trailers for a Warcraft sequel have amassed hundreds of thousands of views, such as “The Fall of Lordaeron” and “The Lich King”, both of which feature Henry Cavill. Neither project is real.

In 2017, Jones teased the possibility of a follow-up and the storylines he’d like to adapt. “With the orcs now in Azeroth, they learn about armor making in this new world,” he tweeted (as per Nerdist).

“Also would have seen Dalaran LAND in the Alterac mountains & magic proliferate as Kirin Tor try to be more open after [the] death of Llane… [I] don’t want to give too much away, as who knows… but Khadgar unleashing Pandora’s Box, Lothar arc, Varian.”

In 2018, he said the chances of a sequel didn’t “look good.” Two years later, Daniel Richtman claimed that Legendary Pictures was developing another Warcraft movie, but it’s unclear if it would connected to Jones’ film, nor have any official announcements been made.
