This is exactly when Superman should come to HBO Max

Superman has already been released on digital platforms, but if you don’t want to buy or rent it digitally, you’re probably wondering when it’ll be on HBO Max. We (may) have an answer.

Despite what some people online would lead you to believe, James Gunn’s Superman is a success, both as a commercial release and a launchpad for a new DC cinematic universe.

It is well-liked by critics and moviegoers (its critic and audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes are both certified with high scores), it’s grossed more than $580 million worldwide, and you could argue it’s been the most-talked-about movie of the summer blockbuster season.

Ahead of Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn and the powers that be at Warner Bros have dropped Superman on digital – but what about HBO Max?

If Superman follows other Warner Bros movies, it’ll be available to stream on HBO Max by Friday, September 26, 2025.

A Minecraft Movie was released in cinemas on April 4, before coming to HBO Max on June 20. Sinners hit cinemas on April 18 and started streaming on July 4. Mickey 17 was released in theaters on March 7, and it dropped on HBO Max on May 23.

What do those three movies and their release dates have in common? They all came to streaming exactly 77 days after their theatrical debut. Given Superman has been released early on digital, there’s no reason to believe it’ll be any different, so it’s fairly safe to expect to stream it on September 26.

However, this hasn’t been confirmed by Gunn or Warner Bros, so keep your eyes peeled for an official announcement.

As for why Superman is available on-demand just over a month after its theatrical release, it’s simple: Peacemaker Season 2 is a follow-up to the film, so Gunn wanted as many people to see it as possible before the new series starts airing.

“It’s very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker.’ I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month,” he explained to Screen Rant.

“There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker is coming out now, and, at the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, even those people who couldn’t get to a theater before Peacemaker. And that’s really the reason for it.”
