A brand-new horror trailer has just dropped this week, and fans already think it’s “so creepy” that they won’t be able to watch the movie.

A good jump scare can come at any time of the year, with a batch of brand-new horror films being teased as 2024 gets off to a scary start.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen the terrifying teaser for Neon’s Longlegs, Steven Soderbergh’s new movie getting an influx of walkouts during its screening at Sundance, and more Steamboat Willie horror films than we know what to do with.

One more horror movie looks to add itself to the ranks, with a trailer so frightening it’s making fans wonder if they’ll be able to handle the full thing.

Stopmotion drops first terrifying trailer

The offending movie is called Stopmotion, featuring a series of creepy-looking dolls throughout its scary first trailer.

Stopmotion’s official synopsis reads: “A stop-motion animator struggles to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother.” The movie was co-written and directed by Robert Morgan.

Though the full movie has yet to be released, the trailer alone has got horror fans excited. “Check out the new trailer & poster for the terrifying STOPMOTION (and then good luck sleeping tonight!” one tweet reads in response to the news, with another adding: “Stop-motion madness that I’m here for!”

“I’m not creeped out by stop-motion, but this does look proper creepy. May have to check this out,” another comment mused under the trailer on YouTube. “So that looks brilliant. I’m never watching it, because I do not have the brain beans to cope with it, but if you do, you should,” another tweeted.

While the plot itself seems enough fuel for nightmares on its own, other fans think the concept of stop-motion itself is adding to the creepy overtones.

“Here comes a barrage of ppl confessing their long and irrational fear of stop motion, and now finally being put into a movie. There is probably a name for it already,” one comment adds, with another chiming in: “This is why horror is my favorite, so much room for creativity, and you’re seeing a resurgence recently.”

Stopmotion had its world premiere at the 2023 Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas on 24 September 2023 Incredibly, the movie has already got a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after nine reviews.

Kat Hughes at THN wrote: “A compelling tale of the dangers of obsession and art’s ability to consume. Excellently constructed animation plays against an incredible live-action performance by Aisling Franciosi to create a thoroughly creative macabre nightmare.”

Steven Prokopy at Third Coast Review agreed: “Morgan is a master of his animation craft, but Stopmotion also proves without doubt that he’s more than capable of working with live actors and creating something that feels new and devastating. One of the best films I saw at Fantastic Fest this year.”

Stopmotion comes to cinemas on February 23, 2024,
