The new Mean Girls musical movie introduces a brand-new cast, alongside some familiar faces – so, here’s a breakdown of all the cameos in the new film.

Mean Girls, the 2024 remake of the 2004 movie (and an adaptation of the Broadway musical), has finally made it to US cinemas, all written by Tina Fey. “New student Cady Heron gets welcomed into the top of the social food chain by an elite group of popular girls called the Plastics, ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George. However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend, she soon finds herself caught in their crosshairs,” the synopsis reads.

But considering the scope of the franchise, and how much impact it still has – including “fetch” – there was a certain expectation that old cast members from the 2004 movie reprise their roles.

And we’re happy to tell you that there are a couple of returning actors and cameos, along with some other fun faces popping up. So here’s a list of all the major cameos made in the 2024 Mean Girls movie.

Ashely Park

Ashley Park in Mean Girls

For those who have seen the Mean Girls musical, you won’t just recognise Ashley Park from Emily in Paris. She actually originated the role of Gretchen Wieners in the Broadway show, though the role is played by Bebe Wood in this movie.

Here, Park plays a rather uptight French teacher at North Shore High. However, we do see her partaking in social media trends alongside the kids later on.

Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm in Mean Girls

Well known Mad Men actor Jon Hamm appears as Coach Carr, which might not count to everyone as a cameo, but his role is significantly less present than he is in the 2004 movie. Namely, this Coach Carr doesn’t seem to have anything going on with underage students.

Hamm plays the role of the uneducated educator well, and gets a number of funny lines throughout the flick.

Tim Meadows and Tina Fey

Mrs Norberry and Mr Duvall in Mean Girls

While these aren’t exactly small cameo roles, we have Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprising their roles as Principle Duval and Ms Norbury. They manage to step back into the same shows with ease, but there are some notable differences.

These differences mainly come through in new jokes, but there’s also a twist reveal that the pair are actually married in this version, playing off the budding romance that occurred in the original picture.

Social media stars

Unlike the 2004 version, this new Mean Girls is set in the age of TikTok. And thus, social media plays a large part in how the school social hierarchy functions.

There are a number of montage scenes with both actors playing regular students filming themselves, and legitimate social media influencers, many of whom the movie’s target audience will be able to pick out. You can even spot some of them in the trailer below:

Megan Thee Stallion

She’s not just singing the end credits song with Regina actor Reneé Rapp – Megan Thee Stallion also appears in the movie. Namely in the social media montage scenes that we mentioned above.

The singer has some great lines in these montages, as she also gets caught up in the high school drama (that she does not seem to know or care about).

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron

That’s right, Lindsay Lohan is back, but not quite as Cady Heron. She plays the judge in the climactic Mathlete tournament, which leads to plenty of funny and referential lines.

You can find out more about Lohan’s appearance in our other Mean Girls 2024 cameo article here, as well as which 2004 actors sadly weren’t able to make it.

Mean Girls will be available in US cinemas on January 12, and UK cinemas on January 17.
