“Scariest movie of 2024” finally gets release date in horrifying trailer

A horror movie that’s been dubbed the “scariest of 2024” – before it’s arrived – has finally received a release date alongside a horrifying full trailer. 

Unless you’re unfamiliar with the horror genre, chances are you’ve heard about Longlegs. The marketing campaign has been nothing short of genius, kicking off when Neon dropped an elusive, spine-tingling teaser at the start of the year. Titled ‘Every year there is another’, the clip features a 911 call of a man whispering, “That’s not my daughter.”

Another arrived one week later, this time titled ‘Remember to say your prayers’. Equally as cryptic (and creepy), the footage shows a man uncovering a box buried beneath a crucifix as a separate audio plays over the top. ““Are you still saying your prayers?” asks the caller. “Our prayers protect us from the devil.”

Both teasers end with symbols and letters alluding to the occult, as does a third teaser, which arrived shortly after. It’s since been confirmed that the movie at the center of this saga is Longlegs. With anticipation ramping up, you’ll be pleased to know that we have a release date – and it’s not too far away.

Over the weekend, Neon dropped the full trailer for Oz Perkins’ Longlegs, and it’s about as creepy as it gets. Alongside the trailer, the studio wrote: “You’ve got the teeth of the hydra upon you. July 12th.” Meaning we’ve only got just over five months to wait. Check it out: 

Kicking off with atmospheric music, the opening scene shows FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) examining a wall filled with those aforementioned occult symbols. Sinister shots follow, with a girl looking out the window of her home to see a stranger’s car parked outside, Harker opening a book titled ‘Nine Circles of Hell’, and a man – presumably Nicolas Cage’s elusive serial killer – handling a doll. 

It’s giving Hereditary, The House That Jack Built, and Skinamarink all in one, and so it’s no surprise horror fans are hyped. Taking to the comments section, one wrote: “Absolutely love the marketing for this project. This is how teasers should be done, really looking forward to this.”

“Take my money now, every teaser is getting better and better, this is now my most anticipated film of the year,” said another, while a third added, “Ok this just shot up to my most anticipated film of 2024.”
