In an interview with Naughty Dog, Abby’s voice actress, Laura Bailey, revealed that she and her newborn son received death threats following The Last of Us Part 2’s release.

The Last of Us Part 2 has been a hot topic of discussion since it received a remaster at the beginning of the year. While some fans argued that labeling the game as a remaster was incorrect, others expressed gratitude for its affordable price tag.

On February 2, Naughty Dog unveiled a documentary detailing the creation of The Last of Us Part 2. This release closely followed the launch of the game’s remastered edition for the PlayStation 5.

The documentary, titled ‘Grounded 2,’ gave fans of the franchise an inside look into how the game was produced and all of the hiccups along the way. It featured interviews from cast members as well as the President of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckman, who revealed upcoming plans for a third installment in the franchise.

Laura Bailey talks about backlash from The Last of Us

During one segment in the Grounded 2 documentary, the voice actress for Abby, Laura Bailey, spoke out about the death threats her family received when the game came out due to the unpopular actions of her character.

“The worst of it, the really hardcore death threats, got passed along,” said Bailey. “They made sure they weren’t anyone that lived close by. Yeah, they were threatening my son who was born during all of it… Yeah, that was rough.”

Bailey said that after the death threat incidents, she learned to keep a distance from the franchise community. Comments beneath the clip that was posted to Twitter/X were of people supporting Bailey and the entirety of those behind The Last of Us Part 2.

“This whole documentary hit really hard,” said one commenter. “The whole section on the leaks got me crying. People are just so messed up. The game is a masterpiece on every level. Those who can’t see that already decided it wasn’t before even playing it and that sucks that they were stolen of that.”

With news of a potential Part 3 on the horizon, others wondered if Bailey would return after the threats she faced while working. However, Bailey has made no further comments about the situation or what she will do if the third game does come to fruition.
