The Last of Us Part 3 is happening and fans already have big concerns

The President of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, has confirmed that The Last of Us Part 3 is happening – but fans of the franchise are skeptical.
Naughty Dog is the proud producer of one of the most beloved video game franchises in recent history. The Last of Us, centered around the story of a girl who is immune to an infectious zombie virus, has sold over 37 million copies in the last nine years.
The Last of Us also recently became a hit TV show on HBO Max starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who previously played roles on another HBO hit, Game of Thrones. Since its conclusion in March 2023, the series has been renewed for another season that will cover the second game in the series.
Now, it seems like there could be a third installment on the horizon that may be slightly different from the previous two iterations.
The Last of Us Part 3 already has mixed reviews
During an inside look at Naughty Dog via the Grounded 2 stream, President Neil Druckmann left fans with the idea that there is more to The Last of Us story and that a third game will be on the horizon.
“I don’t have a story, but I do have that concept,” said Druckmann. “As exciting as one, as exciting as two, as its own thing, yet has this through line for all three.”
Under an announcement tweet about The Last of Us returning for one final push, multiple fans expressed hesitancy to continue the story. There were plenty of excited responses fromplayers, but others started out by asking the hard questions.
“The main character would be Abby,” said one user. “Do you really want that?”
Some commenters shared that they would rather see Naughty Dog put their efforts towards a new title, rather than rehashing a game that has already seen success. But one comment has stood out regarding the legitimacy of the claim from the president.
“Neil also said that The Last of Us online was happening, so take this with a grain of salt,” said another user.
The Last of Us online was supposed to bring players into an open-world experience in the game world through multiplayer, but was officially canceled towards the end of 2023. This has raised questions about whether The Last of Us Part 3 will happen, at all.
