Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A5 comes with a removable battery and works even without it. The tablet is now officially on sale in the US.

Earlier this year, Samsung announced a new tablet called Galaxy Tab Active 5. It’s not your regular tablet, but a rugged device that comes with a military-grade rating and the ability to work without the battery. The Galaxy Tab Active 5 is now available for purchase in the US.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab Active 5 on its website with a starting price of $548.99 for the Wi-Fi version and $658.99 for the cellular variant. The tablet comes in green color with a sole 128GB storage configuration. It is aimed at those who work in extreme conditions.

Galaxy Tab Active 5 is rugged & reliable

Galaxy Tab Active 5 sports an 8-inch 120Hz TFT screen shielded by Gorilla Glass 5. The device features an IP68 rating, meaning it’s resistant against water and dust.

The touchscreen works well even if you have gloves on, says Samsung. The tablet has a MIL-STD-810H military-grade design and features a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The main highlight here is the “No Battery Mode” which, as the name suggests, lets you use the tablet without the battery. But you still need to connect it to a dedicated USB Type-C power source. Also, this mode reduces CPU performance, limits maximum volume, and dims the display brightness of the tablet when enabled.

Galaxy Tab Active 5 packs a 5,050mAh battery with 15W fast wired charging. There are also pogo pins for charging or attaching it to docking stations.

The tablet is armed with the Exynos 1380 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and features a microSD card slot. Running on the software front is One UI 6.0 based on Android 14. It’s promised to receive four major Android OS updates along with five years of security updates.
