Liverpool's injury woes are mounting

Liverpool were dealt two significant injury blows in the first half of their Premier League game against Brentford on Saturday.

The Reds went to West London knowing a win would extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points.

Darwin Nunez opened the scoring for the visitors with an audacious chip over Mark Flekken after Diogo Jota’s brilliant assist, but Jota was soon off the pitch after sustaining a knee injury.

The Portugal international was clearly in significant discomfort after Christian Norgaard landed on his left leg while he was on the ground and was eventually taken off on a stretcher.

Jota’s withdrawal came after Liverpool had already lost a player earlier in the half, with Curtis Jones forced off due to an apparent ankle injury.

Thankfully for Klopp, he could rely on more than capable options on the bench to replace the injured pair, with Ryan Gravenberch and Mo Salah both entering the fray.

However, the pair’s injuries will no doubt pose Jurgen Klopp a headache, given the Liverpool boss already has a number of key players out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominic Szoboszlai, Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are all currently unavailable due to injury.

Klopp was visibly disappointed on the touchline and after right-back Conor Bradley was on the end of a strong challenge from Sergio Reguilon shortly after Jota’s withdrawal, the German was captured grimacing, probably at the prospect of another player picking up an injury.

At half-time, scorer Nunez was also withdrawn, although at the time of writing it was unclear whether that was due to an injury or a tactical decision.
